Family-owned specialty grocery with a full-service deli, butcher, bakery, cheese counter, and garden shop
Woodlands Market is a family-owned independent grocery store founded in Kentfield in 1986 by Marin native Don Santa, his parents, and sisters, reviving a family tradition in the grocery business stretching back to early 20th-century San Francisco. Now operating as Woodlands Stores, Inc., it runs three full-service locations in Kentfield, Tiburon, and San Francisco. The market carries a wide range of departments: deli, produce, meat and seafood, cheese, bakery, wine and spirits, health and beauty, a garden shop, and a pet shop. Catering is also available. Woodlands has been recognized locally and nationally as an industry innovator for its focus on natural and sustainable products. Rather than spending revenues on advertising, Woodlands directs those funds toward local non-profits, with a particular emphasis on education and schools. Learn more on their About Page.
Woodlands Market works with small local farms across the Bay Area to source in-season produce, and buyers hand-select items at the San Francisco produce market to maintain quality standards. The meat department sources from suppliers it identifies as prioritizing animal welfare and sustainable practices, and carries locally sourced meats where possible. In-house butchers prepare specialty cuts, marinated meats, and house-made sausages. Across all departments, the market makes an explicit effort to carry locally made products and to support local vendors.
