A 1,000-acre heritage farm raising bison, heritage pork, and heirloom vegetables with a farm store.
Woodland Farm is a 1,000-acre working farm in Goshen, Kentucky with roots dating to 1840s land grants. Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson purchased the historic property in 1996 and have grown it around sustainable practices and heritage foods. The farm raises American Bison, Mulefoot and Hereford hogs, and heritage-breed chickens, and tends large gardens producing heirloom vegetables. Bison meat, heritage pork, and farm-fresh eggs are available through its on-farm store. Woodland Farm was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1997 and is the single largest Kentucky property on that register. Contemporary artworks are integrated throughout the landscape, and the farm hosts school groups, garden clubs, and visitors. Learn more on their About Page.
Heritage breeds at Woodland Farm are raised as naturally as possible, without steroids, stimulants, or sub-therapeutic antibiotics. The bison herd is processed at the farm's own USDA-approved facility. Natural feed for the pigs is grown on the farm itself. In the gardens, growers use no-till methods and avoid pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides entirely, managing pests by hand. Lumber is harvested from the farm's own forests, and sustainable biofuel powers farm implements.
