Small-herd raw milk dairy and buying club, offering 100% grass-fed Jersey cow milk via herdshare membership
Pink Elephant Farm & Kitchen is a small raw milk dairy and farm in Henry County, operating on a historic property farmed since the 1810s. The farm has maintained a closed herd of primarily Jersey cows since 2016, producing 100% grass-fed raw milk distributed through a herdshare membership program. Because Kentucky law prohibits the sale of raw milk, herdshare members purchase partial ownership of the herd and pay a monthly boarding fee in exchange for weekly milk pickups in half-gallon glass jars. Joining the herdshare also includes access to the farm's Buying Club, which carries a selection of locally sourced, organic goods. Ducks and geese also rotate through the pastures, contributing eggs to the farm's offerings. Learn more on their About Page.
The Jersey herd at Pink Elephant Farm & Kitchen is 100% grass-fed and receives no grain. During the grazing season, cows are rotated daily to fresh sections of pasture, and the pastures are managed organically. In winter, cows receive high-quality, non-treated alfalfa hay, and may receive organic molasses or alfalfa pellets during milking. Cows have constant free-choice access to a range of minerals, salt, and kelp. Following Biodynamic practices, calves are raised by their mothers and cows are allowed to keep their horns. Milk is bottled twice weekly and distributed in reusable glass jars at on-farm pickup.
