Winter's Turkeys

All of Winter's Turkeys are raised free-range, with birds introduced to the outdoors at three weeks of age and given unlimited outdoor access from five weeks. Their fenced runs include grass, hay, branches, and plants. Turkeys are fed a whole grain diet with a whole wheat base, following a feed program originally developed by Grandpa Jack Winter and updated by nutritionists. Birds begin on a fine crumbled feed for the first four weeks, with whole wheat gradually increasing to approximately 90% of the ration by week 14. The certified organic flock is fed a farm-mixed diet of organic wheat, organic soy meal, organic flax or canola meal, organic peas, and minerals, with the organic feed program managed entirely on the farm. Organic certification is administered annually by Ecocert Canada. Smoked products are made using real wood chips, and no sodium nitrate is used; smoked meats are cured with cultured celery powder. All products are gluten-free and made in a gluten-free facility.
