Trail's End Ranch has been a family ranching operation since Fred Ings established it in the Nanton area in 1903, with the current beef enterprise launched in the early 2000s by the third and fourth generations of the Ings-Loree family. The ranch sits in the Porcupine Hills of southern Alberta, where rolling terrain, abundant springs, and native grasslands provide the grazing land for the herd. Trail's End Beef is 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, direct-marketed to customers as quarter, side, and whole beef, as well as select cuts. Beef is processed seasonally, dry-aged 14 to 21 days at a small professional butcher, and delivered frozen to customers in Calgary, Okotoks, and Lethbridge, with ranch store pickup available by appointment. The herd is Red Angus, Black Angus, and Hereford-influenced cattle, born and raised on the ranch and butchered at 26 to 29 months, about a year older than conventionally finished animals. All cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished on native shortgrass prairie, native fescue grassland, and domestic pastures, with no grain or artificial supplements. In winter, they are fed hay, including hay from a certified organic hay farm. The ranch uses rotational grazing with portable electric fencing, and no chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides are used on the land. Cattle receive no growth hormones and no sub-therapeutic antibiotics. Discretionary antibiotics are used only when an animal needs veterinary care, with strict withdrawal periods. Handling is low-stress, with horses used for cattle work and infrastructure designed for humane processing. Beef is dry-aged 14 to 21 days at the butcher, then delivered frozen.
