Top Grass raises cattle on grass and forage (kale, forage turnip, forage sorghum, clovers, brassicas, vetch, legumes), supplemented in winter with malt sprouts, a chemical-free malting byproduct. Cattle graze in rotational, holistic systems mimicking wild herd movement, moving through native prairie pastures, letting grasses recover. The farm favors British breeds (Black Angus, Red Angus, Hereford, Speckle Park, Galloway) and uses ultrasound and gene mapping for genetic selection. Low-stress handling, informed by Temple Grandin's methods, is a stated practice. All products are federally inspected and processed in CFIA-approved facilities. Annual third-party audits verify grass-fed status and the absence of added hormones or antibiotics. Top Grass partners with producers who follow its audit protocols.
