Pasture-raised eggs, mixed vegetables, meat, and flowers grown with organic practices on a multi-generational family farm.
Wingate Farm is a woman-owned and led diversified farm that has been in the Pettengill family for roughly a century. Commercial farming operations began in 2013 under farmer Olivia Pettengill, and Susan Parke-Sutherland joined as a farm partner in 2014. The farm raises around 1,200 laying hens on pasture and grows a few acres of mixed vegetables, along with meat and flowers. Eggs are available through retail partners and CSA egg-share programs in the region. In 2015, the farm placed a Conservation Easement with Mount Grace Land Trust, permanently protecting the property from development and ensuring it remains farmland. Learn more on their About Page.
Wingate Farm grows its eggs, produce, meat, and flowers with organic practices. Laying hens spend the spring, summer, and fall on pasture, managed through a system of intensely rotational grazing using large mobile coops and portable fencing that move every one to two days. This rotation keeps pasture invigorated, distributes manure across fields, and gives hens room to forage for insects, seeds, and grasses, which supply an estimated 10 to 20 percent of their nutritional needs. The remainder of the hens' feed comes from Green Mountain Feeds, a family-owned company in central Vermont; the feed is certified organic and guaranteed 100% GMO-free. During winter months, hens are housed in a hoop house.
