Certified organic vegetables grown on a conserved 71-acre farm in southwestern New Hampshire.
Picadilly Farm is a 71-acre certified organic vegetable farm owned and operated by Jenny and Bruce Wooster, who purchased the property in 2006. The farm works roughly 40 acres of prime agricultural soils in the Connecticut River Valley, with 15 acres in vegetable production each season and four greenhouses. Focus crops include sweet potatoes, carrots, cantaloupes, kale, and peppers. Picadilly sells wholesale to regional food co-ops in Keene, Brattleboro, and Greenfield, through Food Connects, and to local farms. A farm shop operates on-site for direct retail sales. Picadilly Farm holds USDA Certified Organic status and is additionally certified by the Real Organic Project. The farm uses no genetically modified seeds and no pesticides that leave toxic residues. Soils are fed with composts, animal manures, organic fertilizers, bio-stimulants, and cover crop and cash crop residues returned to the land. Farming focuses on ecological balance, keeping biological, physical, and chemical forces working together toward a healthy soil system. Soil-building cover crops are grown on roughly nine additional acres each season, alongside permanent erosion-preventing crops on field edges. Two-thirds of the farm is protected by a conservation easement with the State of New Hampshire. The farm directs over 60% of annual income to labor costs and prioritizes fair wages and working conditions for its crew.
