Grass-fed goat and lamb from a pasture-based sheep and goat farm in Northfield, MA.
Finicky Farm is a family-owned sheep and goat operation run by the Robertson-DuBois family in Northfield, Massachusetts. The farm raises grass-fed goat and lamb, with animals born on the farm and raised on pasture alongside their mothers. Goats graze on pastures in Northfield and neighboring towns, where they clear invasive species and restore pastures. Sheep graze in solar arrays across three counties in Massachusetts, providing vegetation management while building soil fertility. During winter, the whole flock and herd returns to the home farm in Northfield, where they are fed hay and birth their young in spring. Learn more on their About Page.
Finicky Farm uses rotational grazing to reduce land impact and allow pastures maximum rest time to build soil biology. Goats graze local pastures where they clear invasive species and build soil fertility, while sheep graze conventional solar arrays, supporting renewable energy production alongside pasture restoration. The farm does not use routine flock-wide or herd-wide antibiotic or dewormer practices. The farm's approach centers on conservation, stewardship, and raising livestock in a manner that benefits both the animals and the soil they graze on.
