Family-run farm raising natural-fed beef, chicken, turkey, and farm eggs near Edberg, Alberta
Herbert Family Farm is a multi-generational family operation near Edberg, Alberta, with more than 50 years of farming history on the same land. Murray and Carolyn Herbert, along with their five children, run the farm together across the seasons. The farm raises natural-fed beef, broiler chickens, turkeys, and maintains a year-round laying hen flock. Whole and cut-up chickens, turkeys, and farm-fresh eggs are available for purchase through the farm store. Herbert Family Farm also participates as a producer in the Camrose Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, supplying shares of eggs, chicken, beef, and seasonal turkey. Straw and hay are also available. Learn more on their About Page.
Broiler chicks are raised from day-old on the farm, then moved into movable outdoor pens once old enough, giving them access to fresh grass and natural forage each day. Chickens are fed a home-rolled, all-natural feed from day-old chick through to butcher weight, and are sold as whole or cut-up birds ranging from roughly 4 to 7 lbs. Turkeys are raised from day-old in the same outdoor pen system, with daily access to fresh grass and a home-made, all-natural feed; dressed birds average 6 to 9 kg. The laying hen flock is maintained year-round: hens roam outside in a fenced pen during summer, with access to grass, bugs, and vegetable scraps, and are kept in the barn through winter. A fresh batch of pullets is raised each year to keep the flock productive.
