Redtail Farms is a family-run regenerative agriculture farm on a mix of grasslands and wetlands near Castor, Alberta. It raises Luing cattle and Berkshire hogs, selling grass-fed and grass-finished beef in quarter, half, and full cuts, as well as ground beef. Specialty offerings include beef bones, lard, tallow, offal and organ meats, and house-made natural beef jerky and pepperoni. The farm operates an open-farm policy and hosts an annual field day, seasonal farm-to-table dinners, and educational events open to the public. Redtail Farms also supplies restaurants and butchers. Redtail Farms holds Animal Welfare Approved and AWA Certified Grassfed certifications. Cattle are grass-fed and grass-finished, spending their lives on pasture with no added hormones. Berkshire hogs are raised on pasture-grown grasses and grains with open-range access to prairies and woodlands. No low-grade or prophylactic antibiotics are used in feed; if an animal requires treatment, the farm doubles the recommended withdrawal period before slaughter. Farming practices are guided by regenerative agriculture principles, including rotational and intensive grazing modelled on historical bison movement, riparian rehabilitation, Keyline Design for water conservation, and permaculture plantings. The approach follows the Holistic Resource Management methods of Allan Savory, with the goal of building soil health and increasing plant diversity across the Alberta prairie landscape. Animals are not exposed to pesticides.
