Kentucky organic farm producing heirloom corn, fruit jams, raw mustards, tallow soaps, and pickles since 1992.
Sunflower Sundries is a diversified organic farm and cottage food business founded in 1992 by Jennifer Gleason, guided by the motto "Local Food for Local Folks." What began as homemade jams, soaps, mustards, and pickles gifted to family and friends grew into a full-time farm operation. The farm grows a wide range of crops including rhubarb, asparagus, gooseberries, wild blackberries, okra, garlic, horseradish, herbs, flowers, and sunflowers. Every harvest is turned into a finished product: fruits become jams, vegetables become pickles, and heirloom Hickory King corn becomes grits, hominy, and chips. A Soap Shop beside the 1870s farmhouse serves as the farm's retail space, with all food products prepared in an on-site commercial kitchen. Sunflower Sundries is a KY Proud member since 2002 and has been a Good Foods Co-op member for over 25 years. Learn more on their About Page.
Sunflower Sundries grows all its fruits and vegetables without chemicals, using composting, crop rotation, cover cropping, seed saving, mulching, low tillage, minerals, and habitat biodiversity. When additional supply is needed beyond what the farm produces, it sources from a trusted network of local farmers. Herbal tallow soaps are made using a cold-process method in 1,500-bar batches. The farm's heirloom corn chips are made from white Hickory King corn grown by local organic farmers. Jams are made with locally grown fruits. The farm operates with a stated philosophy of local economy, local foods, and seasonal eating.
