USDA Certified Organic vegetable farm with a weekly CSA program in eastern Connecticut.
Russo's Roots is a small, family-run vegetable farm operating on 26 acres in eastern Connecticut. The farm was purchased by James Russo and Libby Tarleton in 2014, with the first growing season beginning in 2015. James is a first-generation farmer with decades of vegetable farming experience, and Libby brings a background in vegetable farming and vineyard work. The farm grows a wide range of vegetables, from common staples like tomatoes and carrots to more unusual varieties such as kohlrabi, puntarelle, ginger, and turmeric. Its weekly CSA program offers half and full share options, with multiple pickup locations across eastern Connecticut. The farm also accepts SNAP/EBT payments for its vegetable CSA.
Russo's Roots is USDA Certified Organic, with certification provided by Baystate Organic Certifiers (BOC). The farm grows all of its produce using certified organic practices. Soil health is central to its approach: the team applies compost, cover crops, soil testing, organic fertilization, and reduced tillage to build and maintain a living soil system. The farm has progressively converted former pastureland into productive vegetable fields since its first growing season. CSA add-on shares are available from partner farms, including honey from Shooks Apiaries in Willimantic and sustainably grown mushrooms from Fenner Forest Farm in Canterbury.
