Rough & Ready Farm is a small-scale, woman-owned diversified vegetable farm in Longmont, Colorado. The farm began production on leased land in 2020 and has since expanded by securing an additional parcel. It sells produce at the Longmont farmers market and through regular wholesale buyers. The farm operates within a thriving wildlife corridor and keeps a strong focus on soil health and ecological balance. Guided farm tours are available for a fee. Rough & Ready Farm applies no chemicals of any kind to its crops, including those approved for organic use. Soil fertility is maintained through custom-blended cover crops (including rye, oats, peas, hairy vetch, and triticale), compost, and livestock impact. Drip irrigation is used farm-wide to conserve water, with overhead irrigation reserved only for establishing cover crops. The farm avoids leaving soil bare to build organic matter and minimize erosion. No plastic mulch is used. Smaller tractors are chosen specifically to reduce soil compaction, and the farm's human-scale, tree-bordered fields support on-farm ecology. Pest pressure is managed by rotating away from affected crops and allowing time for natural recovery rather than applying any biocides.
