Seed-to-cup Kona coffee roaster on Hawaii's oldest certified organic coffee farm
Rooster Farms Coffee is a husband-and-wife-run farm and roastery situated at 1,600 feet elevation in South Kona, Hawai'i. Ed, an environmental engineer and scientist, and Tara, an artist, took over what they describe as the oldest certified organic farm in Hawai'i and handle every step from seed to cup: hand-picking, processing, and roasting. The farm grows 100% Kona coffee and also produces turmeric and taro. Rooster Farms offers its coffees in estate, Extra Fancy, Yellow Caturra, Peaberry, and white-roast varieties, roasted only when orders come in. The farm also hosts bookable on-site farm visits. Rooster Farms has been recognized in the Kona Coffee Cultural Cupping Contest and featured in outlets including the New York Times and Hawaiian Airlines publications. Learn more on their About Page.
Rooster Farms operates as a certified organic farm, a status it describes as the oldest of its kind in Hawai'i. Ed and Tara took over the operation from the farm's prior steward and combined the methods they were taught with updated agricultural research and proprietary technology Ed developed to deliver nutrients to the plants in a sustainable way. Coffee is grown in the Kona Coffee Belt's volcanic soil and microclimate at over 1,600 feet elevation. Every batch is roasted only to order rather than in advance, and the farm grows, picks, processes, and roasts all of its own coffee on-site.
