Permaculture farm growing 100% Kona coffee and macadamia nuts on the volcanic slopes of Mauna Loa since 1919.
Kula Mana Farms is a permaculture farm on the western slopes of Mauna Loa in the Kona coffee growing region, with roots going back to 1919. It grows and sells 100% pure Kona coffee and macadamia nuts, both raised on the same historic estate. Coffee is offered in several roast profiles, including a blond roast, medium roast, full city medium-dark roast, and a dark French roast, alongside a rare estate peaberry. The farm also produces and sells its own macadamia nuts. Steep slopes that resist mechanization mean harvesting is done by hand, carried out by the farm's extended family and guest workers. Learn more on their About Page.
Kula Mana Farms uses regenerative agricultural techniques within a permaculture framework. The farm is a mixed tree operation, interplanting coffee and macadamia nut trees alongside papaya, avocado, pineapple, and banana. This plant diversity shades the coffee cherry, anchors the volcanic soil, and builds a nutrient-rich layer of decomposing organic matter atop the underlying lava rock. Coffee beans are hand-picked, sun-dried, and roasted in small batches on the farm. Macadamia nuts are likewise harvested, processed, and roasted by hand on site. The farm sells its coffee as 100% pure Kona, grown within the Kona Coffee Belt and never blended.
