Certified organic vegetable, fruit, and pasture-raised meat and egg farm in California's Capay Valley.
Riverdog Farm is a 350-acre, certified organic, diversified family farm owned by Tim Mueller and located in the Capay Valley. The farm grows vegetables, fruits, and nuts, and raises pasture-raised chickens, pigs, and lambs. Certified organic since 1993, it was among the first organic farms to sell at the Berkeley Farmers' Markets. Riverdog employs 50 people year-round, with multiple generations of families on the farm crew. Customers can access its produce through a weekly CSA program, farmers' markets, wholesale, and an online shop. Riverdog Farm has used a system of compost, crop rotation, cover cropping, and hedgerow planting since 1990 to maintain soil health and promote a healthy ecosystem. All animals are pasture-raised on organically grown alfalfa, clovers, and perennial grasses, and are fed certified organic feed with no antibiotics or growth hormones. Pigs live on 50 acres of organic pasture and are rotated to prevent manure build-up and soil erosion; breeds raised include Tamworth, Duroc, Hampshire, Chester, and European Wild Boar. Laying hens are rotated through 5-acre pasture swaths on a two-week cycle and are fed farm-grown triticale and safflower alongside organic feed. The farm integrates its animals into the broader farming system, using them to provide natural fertilizer for orchards and fields. The farm grows over 80 different crop varieties.
