Overview
Home-delivery grocery service offering organic produce, meat, dairy, and more from Iowa farms and producers
Prudent Produce is an online food hub and home-delivery grocery service founded in 2010 and based in Elkhart, Iowa. It delivers organic produce, eggs, meat, dairy, baked goods, honey, maple syrup, kombucha, coffee, and pantry staples to households in Central Iowa. Customers choose from subscription box sizes, including fruit-and-vegetable combinations, veggie-focused options, a fruit-only bin, and a fully customizable build-your-own box. Box contents shift with the seasons, and customers can adjust their delivery schedule up to three months ahead. The company works with more than 50 Iowa farmers and dozens of other producers and artisans, supplementing local supply with quality foods from around the country to keep customers stocked year-round. A mobile app for iOS and Android lets subscribers manage orders on the go.
Prudent Produce's produce is sourced either from certified organic growers or from local producers the business has vetted as not using synthetic chemicals on their products. Partner farms are selected in part for practices that support soil health, including cover crops and other conservation methods aimed at keeping nutrients in the soil. Many of the farms Prudent Produce works with raise animals and, per the business's own descriptions of its sourcing partners, treat animals in respectful and humane conditions. Grass-fed beef is part of the meat selection. The business sources local produce when available and fills out its year-round inventory with additional items from Iowa artisans and other producers.
