Small-batch raw honey apiary offering Iowa varietal honeys, comb honey, beeswax products, and custom honey gifts.
Just Iowa Honey is a family-owned apiary in Des Moines, Iowa, founded by John and Val Just in 2015. It produces pure, raw, unpasteurized honey from five apiaries across central Iowa, including locations in Des Moines, Indianola, and Runnells. Rather than blending honey from multiple sources, each apiary is harvested and bottled separately whenever possible, yielding distinct varietals including Wildflower, Black Locust, and Basswood (Linden). The business also offers comb honey, beeswax essentials, honey gift boxes, custom honey favors for events, and honey samplers with tasting scorecards. Education about pollinators, bee biology, and Iowa's native landscapes is a central part of what Just Iowa Honey does. Orders are available for local pickup. Learn more on their About Page.
Just Iowa Honey never pasteurizes its honey and never heats it beyond the natural temperature of the hive. Extraction uses gentle methods, and the honey is strained through a 400-600 micron filter that removes wax and debris while allowing naturally occurring pollen to remain. Each apiary's harvest is bottled separately in small batches, and the business does not blend its honey with imported honey or other sweeteners. Honey bees forage within approximately three miles of each home apiary, producing what the business describes as hyper-local honey that reflects the specific landscape and season of each location. The majority of honey is bottled in glass, and customers are invited to return empty jars for cleaning, sanitizing, and reuse, with a credit applied toward a future purchase.
