Old Homeplace Farm

Old Homeplace Farm uses rotational grazing, moving animals through pastures on a managed schedule so each animal receives fresh pasture regularly. The farm practices multispecies grazing, running cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, and chickens together to make use of the full range of forages and reduce the need for mechanical brush clearing. Ruminants (cattle, sheep, and goats) receive no grain supplementation and are raised on a forage-only diet. Pigs and chickens are raised on pasture and supplemented with corn. Animal manure is composted using deep-bedded barn material, which is converted into a soil amendment for the vegetable fields. Vegetables are grown to the standards of the National Organic Program, without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers, relying on healthy soil biology, crop rotation, and cover crops. Honeybees kept on the property support pollination of vegetable fields and the farm orchard.
