Overview
USDA Certified Organic CSA farm offering seasonal produce shares, flower shares, and garden plant starts.
Lazy Eight Stock Farm is a 420-acre USDA Certified Organic farm on the banks of Paint Lick Creek in Madison and Garrard counties. The Baumann family has farmed the land since 1947, and the farm joined the USDA Certified Organic Program in 2012, the same year it launched its CSA. Members receive weekly or bi-weekly shares of seasonal vegetables from May through September, with small, regular, and extra-large box sizes available, all fully customizable. Add-on options include a flower share and supplemental items from partner local farmers, such as eggs, bread, and meat. The farm also sells vegetable, flower, and herb plant starts. Pickup locations span Lexington, Richmond, Danville, and Berea, with home delivery also available. Learn more on their About Page.
Lazy Eight Stock Farm has held USDA Certified Organic status since 2012, growing produce without synthetic inputs. The farm manages its land to promote biological diversity above and below ground by growing a diversity of crops, creating riparian areas for wildlife and insects, and developing pollinator habitats. All energy needs on the farm are offset by a solar panel installation completed in 2019. Greenhouse heating is powered by a biomass hydronic system fueled entirely by deadfall timber cut on the farm, which heats 100 tons of stone beneath the greenhouse floor to provide even warmth for seedlings. The farm participates in the H2A Guest Worker program to staff seasonal growing operations.
