Sustainable Harvest Farm is a family-run operation founded by Ford and Amanda Waterstrat in London, Kentucky in 2009. The farm grows more than 40 varieties of vegetables and select fruits on over 125 acres, using environmentally sound production practices. Its flagship offering is a customizable Farm Share (CSA) program that runs for 20 to 22 weeks each growing season, allowing members to choose which in-season produce they receive each week. Share sizes are available for households of one person up to families of five or more, with pickup locations across Kentucky and Tennessee. In addition to produce shares, Sustainable Harvest Farm offers jarred goods such as marinara and salsa, and makes Wildcat Mountain Cheeses available as share add-ons. Sustainable Harvest Farm has held USDA Certified Organic status since 2011, making it the first certified organic farm in its region. It grows produce using environmentally sound practices and undergoes annual compliance inspections as required by its organic certification. The farm also voluntarily submits to an annual Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) market access audit, administered by a licensed USDA auditor, to verify adherence to FDA Food Safety Act Produce Safety Rule standards. A 13 kWh solar panel system offsets a significant portion of the farm's electrical use, and its delivery vehicles run on natural gas. Sustainable Harvest Farm participates in the Fair Food Program and in Accelerating Appalachia's climate-smart farming initiative. Excess produce is donated to God's Pantry Food Bank, and uncollected local shares are donated to church members.
