Highland Orchards Farm Market is a family farm in Wilmington, Delaware, with roots going back to 1832. Now in its seventh generation of family stewardship, the farm operates what it describes as Wilmington's longest-running Community Supported Agriculture program. Members can choose from weekly or bi-weekly CSA boxes sized for individuals or families, with options including veggie and fruit shares, a fruit-only share, a flower share, and a meat share. Produce, eggs, dairy, and baked goods are also available as add-on items. Highland Orchards Farm Market grows its produce using sustainable methods that include crop rotation, minimal tillage, cover cropping, and composting with aged manure. The farm uses beneficial insects and nematodes, fish emulsion, seaweed, and plant- and mineral-based sprays and powders. Mulching with leaves, wood chips, and straw helps suppress weeds and maintain soil health. Planting distances and pruning are planned with air flow in mind to support plant health. Herbs, vegetables, and cutting-garden flowers are started in on-farm greenhouses. The farm states a commitment to avoiding sewage sludge, organophosphates, synthetic chemicals, and GMOs, and uses only non-GMO seeds.
