Grant Family Farm is a small, diversified farm owned and led by Chris Grant, who began selling vegetables and pumpkins roadside at age 14. In 2019, the farm found its permanent home on 10 acres of conserved farmland in West Newbury, a site with over 140 years of history as a local produce and flower destination. The farm grows a wide variety of leafy greens, root crops, fruiting crops, herbs, and cut flowers. A seasonal pick-your-own flower field features over 100 unique dahlia varieties alongside sunflowers, zinnias, snapdragons, and more. The honor-system farm stand, open May through November, stocks the farm's own produce and flowers alongside fruit and crops from neighboring farmers. Grant Family Farm grows its vegetables using organic practices, focusing on methods that work with the environment rather than against it. The farm emphasizes low-impact farming and active soil investment. To manage pests and disease, it uses cultural controls such as netting, row cover, and protected culture, supplemented by natural and biological controls when needed. The farmland is protected under an Agricultural Preservation Restriction, secured with the help of Essex County Greenbelt Land Trust and Town of West Newbury Community Preservation Act funds, ensuring it remains a working farm permanently.
