Family ranch raising heritage Belted Galloway beef cattle in Scott Valley, California.
Crown H Cattle Company is a family-run cattle ranch on the Hanna Brothers Ranch in Scott Valley, established in 2021 as a brand built on a multi-generational ranching legacy dating to the early 1940s. The ranch raises registered Angus beef cattle, Angus bulls, and a growing herd of heritage Belted Galloway cattle, known informally as Belties. Judd and Regina Hanna started their Belted Galloway herd in 2018 and sell dry-aged beef cuts directly to customers, including steaks, roasts, and harder-to-find cuts such as picanha, flat iron, buckaroo, hanger steak, oxtail, and beef marrow bones. The ranch also grows alfalfa, grain, and grass hay. Learn more on their About Page.
Crown H Cattle Company raises its Belted Galloway cattle naturally on the family ranch, finishing them for 60 to 90 days on ranch-grown hay and a specially made ration from a local Grange Co-op. The cattle are born and raised on the ranch, and the Hanna family drives them directly to a local butcher in their own stock trailer for humane processing. The beef is dry-aged locally for 14 to 20 days. Because the ranch works with a smaller-scale local butcher, cuts can be tailored to each animal rather than uniform portioning. Belted Galloways carry a thick double-hair coat in place of the typical fat rind found in other beef breeds, resulting in fat that is marbled through the meat rather than concentrated under the hide.
