Certified organic vegetable and cut flower farm in Randolph County, Indiana.
Christopher Farm is a small family farm growing certified organic vegetables and cut flowers on two acres in central Randolph County. Wendy Carpenter has tended the land, handed down from her grandfather, for 30 years, planting her first garlic crop there in 1996. Her son Adrian Hess joined the operation in 2020. What began as a quarter-acre hobby garden has grown into a year-round, intensive certified organic operation. The farm sells at farmers markets, offers a CSA serving the Richmond area, and provides online ordering. Christopher Farm also runs an apprenticeship program for those looking to learn organic vegetable production. Learn more on their About Page.
Christopher Farm has been USDA Organic certified through OEFFA since 2017 and joined the Real Organic Project in 2019. The farm grows its vegetables and flowers without synthetic herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers. In recent years, it has transitioned to a no-till operation, a methodology the farm uses to build soil biology, improve resilience, and sequester carbon. Its practices are designed to foster as diverse a soil microbial community as possible. Seasonal cut flowers are selected and arranged to reflect the surrounding landscape and to have the longest possible vase life.
