Charlie Hong Kong has been serving fast, produce-forward food in Santa Cruz since 1998, drawing inspiration from Southeast Asian street food. The menu centers on Signature Bowls packed with an organic vegetable medley of kale, chard, cabbage, bok choy, and broccoli, paired with noodles or rice and a rotating cast of house-made sauces. Rice bowls, toasted Cubano roll sandwiches, salads, soups, and a kids menu round out the offerings. The kitchen operates out of a repurposed 1950s ice cream stand with a covered patio. Charlie Hong Kong sources organic produce from farms on the Central Coast of California, receiving freshly harvested greens each morning. The kitchen processes approximately 500 pounds of organic produce per day, making sauces from scratch, charring ginger and onion, and slow-roasting meats in-house. Chicken comes from free-range Rocky birds; pork is hormone and antibiotic free. The King Salmon is certified organic and sustainably farmed. Tofu is locally made and organic. Many Signature Bowls and salads carry organic and vegan designations, and a wide range of items are gluten-free or available gluten-free by request.
