Ice Cream Shop
Open
From-scratch ice cream made with local, organic, and seasonal ingredients since 2010.
The Penny Ice Creamery has been making ice cream completely from scratch in Santa Cruz since 2010, founded by Chef Kendra L. Baker and business partner Zachary E. Davis. The shop uses all organic dairy and sustainably grown ingredients sourced from farmers the team knows personally. As one of the smallest dairy manufacturing plants in California, production happens in the shop in full view of visitors, with an open kitchen and showcased production room. The Penny holds a licensed pasteurizer, freeing it to craft each recipe individually rather than relying on a pre-mixed base. No artificial flavors or preservatives go into its ice cream. The business also offers catering for private parties, corporate events, weddings, and large-scale gatherings. Learn more on their About Page.
The Penny Ice Creamery makes its ice cream in small batches using all organic dairy and sustainably grown ingredients. It sources each ingredient individually, selecting local and seasonal produce from farmers it knows. Because it operates a licensed pasteurizer on-site, it builds every recipe from scratch rather than purchasing a pre-mixed ice cream base. This process also ensures no artificial flavors or preservatives are used. The team combines traditional culinary methods with modern and whimsical flavor combinations. Waffle cones are hand-rolled fresh in-house.
