Fifth-generation dairy farm with a seasonal farm store, raw milk, grass-fed beef, ice cream, and an on-site brewery.
Carter & Stevens Farm is a fifth-generation dairy farm that has operated in Barre since 1938. Founded by Donald Carter, it has grown to over 1,000 acres of pastures and cropland with more than two hundred head of cattle. The farm runs a seasonal farm store (mid-late April through October) carrying its own raw milk, grass-fed beef, ice cream, produce, and locally made goods. Stone Cow Brewery, founded in 2016, is located on the farm property and is open year-round. The farm also operates Stone Cow Kitchen and a Field to Flame BBQ, and hosts a free live music concert series. Learn more on their About Page.
Carter & Stevens Farm sustainably farms 1,000 acres of pastures and crops. Its dairy barn is powered by solar and wind power. The farm describes itself as one of the largest pasture-based dairy farms in Massachusetts. Its grass-fed beef comes with no added dyes, preservatives, or hormones, and each package of ground beef is sourced from a single animal rather than a blend. Raw milk is bottled on the farm and sold directly from the farm store. Craft beer from Stone Cow Brewery is brewed on the premises.
