Natural farm and nursery growing Sweet White Pineapple, tropical fruits, and grafted fruit trees in Hawaii.
Bennett Farm and Nursery, founded in 2001, began as a homestead garden and has grown into a small natural farm. It is known as the Home of the Sweet White Pineapple (also called Sugarloaf Pineapple), a low-acid, sweet, and juicy variety that originated in West Africa. Beyond pineapple, the farm grows Apple Banana, Kabocha squash, a variety of citrus, avocado, mango, Kari starfruit, and seasonal vegetables and herbs. The farm also operates a nursery offering grafted fruit trees, Sweet White Pineapple plants, and a growing selection of citrus, mango, avocado, and starfruit. Its produce is sold to retail outlets including KTA, Island Naturals, and Abundant Life, and supplies Sweet Cane Cafe in Hilo.
Bennett Farm and Nursery employs Natural Farming methods, guided by the work of Masanobu Fukuoka. The nursery grafts mango, avocado, citrus, and starfruit trees; citrus trees are grafted onto bitter orange rootstock, specifically a Kuharski Carrizo variety, which the farm notes best mitigates fungus for rootstock. Sweet White Pineapple plants are grown in potting soil and kept moist to develop roots before sale.
