Be Wise Ranch is a certified organic family farm owned and operated by Bill Brammer in the foothills of northern San Diego County. The farm has been growing organic produce since 1977, making it one of the longer-running organic operations in California. It specializes in flavorful varieties of organic fruits and vegetables, including slicing tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, strawberries, cucumbers, zucchini, and more. Produce is sold through the national wholesale market and through a local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program serving San Diego County. The CSA delivers boxes of fresh organic produce weekly or every other week to pick-up locations throughout the county. Farm tours are also available. Learn more on their About Page.
Be Wise Ranch holds CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) certification, which is verified through at least one annual on-site inspection of the farm and its records. Certified organic status prohibits the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers on any produce. The farm focuses on building soil quality through organic methods, and recycles local green waste into compost. Bill Brammer served as State President of CCOF for five years and was a founding member of the Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF). The farm's location, eight miles east of the Pacific Ocean, provides a micro-climate that supports year-round growing.
