Jimbo's is an independent natural foods grocery chain with four locations across San Diego County. Founded in 1984 by Jim Someck, the chain has grown from a single North Park store into a multi-location retailer recognized as a leader in the natural and organic grocery space. Departments span 100% organic produce, bulk grocery, prepared foods, bakery, meat and seafood, wellness, and a specialty section covering cheese, wine, and beer. Jimbo's has earned multiple industry honors, including INFRA Store of the Year (1995 and 2021), Whole Foods Magazine Retailer of the Year (2012), and UNFI's Local Independent Impact Award (2024). Certified Organic is the baseline standard for Jimbo's produce, prioritizing local and seasonal sourcing from regional farms. The grocery department prioritizes products with USDA Organic and Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) credentials, and the stores carry over 130 ROC products. All canned tuna must be Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified or pole-and-line caught. Seafood is selected to meet Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch ratings of Best Choice (Green) or Good Alternative (Yellow) wherever possible. New wine submissions must meet sustainable winegrowing standards at minimum, with preference for organic, biodynamic, and Regenerative Organic Certified wines. Jimbo's does not knowingly accept new products containing non-organic corn, soy, canola, sugar beets, alfalfa, or potatoes unless they carry Non-GMO Project verification. The prepared foods team repurposes surplus produce into juices, smoothies, and other dishes rather than discarding it.
