Barrett's Mill Farm is a Certified Organic vegetable farm situated on 15 acres of the historic McGrath Farmstead in Concord, Massachusetts. Produce is available through a market-style Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, a seasonal farm stand open to the public, and an online store. The CSA gives members the choice of filling a reusable bag from a wide selection of harvested vegetables each week, with pick-your-own crops available in addition. Memberships come in two sizes (Regular and Small) and two formats (Extended 24-week and Flex 20-pick-up), with sliding-scale pricing that includes Supporter, Standard, and Reduced tiers. The farm also accepts SNAP and its own Barrett's Bucks payment program. A separate Pick-Your-Own Flower CSA lets members harvest seasonal bouquets during farm stand hours. Barrett's Mill Farm holds Certified Organic status and grows approximately 50 types of vegetables, fruits, and flowers across nearly 200 varieties, a diversity the farm considers central to a healthy operation. The farm builds soil fertility through cover crops planted after each vegetable crop, along with organically approved fertilizers and composts, with a portion of land kept in cover crop and out of vegetable production each season. Weeds are managed through mulches (straw, plastic mulch, landscape fabric, and living mulches such as clover) and mechanical cultivation, supplemented by hand-weeding and hoeing. Pest and disease pressure is addressed through crop rotation, physical barriers including row cover and kaolin clay, and the selection of disease-resistant cultivars. Organically approved pesticides are used only as a last resort.
