Family-owned apiary producing raw, unfiltered honey, beeswax, bee pollen, and honeybee nucs since 1958.
Crystal's Raw Honey is part of Merrimack Valley Apiaries Inc. (MVA), a family-owned honeybee farm founded in Billerica, Massachusetts, in 1958. Crystal and Andy Card Jr. purchased MVA in 1985 and created the Crystal's Raw Honey brand in 2006 as an alternative to industrial-style honey packaging. The business has grown into one of the largest honeybee farms in the nation, with operations spanning New England, New York, New Jersey, California, and Louisiana. Products include raw honey jars, comb honey, honey sticks, bulk honey, beeswax, bee pollen, maple syrup, and gift sets. MVA also supplies honeybee nucs and queens to hobby and commercial beekeepers. The farm's stated goal is to offer honey sourced from floral sources local to their market areas, without blending.
Crystal's Raw Honey uses a cold-packing process: after extraction by centrifuge, honey passes through a wax spinner to remove larger pieces of beeswax and debris, but is not heated or fine-filtered, preserving the pollen and enzymes present in raw honey. The business does not apply heat during extraction or bottling, as heating would destroy yeast cells, pollen, and enzymes. Crystal's holds itself accountable to the practices of the Honey Bee Health Coalition and the NYS Grown and Certified program. Colonies are maintained year-round to ensure strong hives during the honey-making season. The business also provides pollination services for apples, blueberries, and cranberries across New England, New York, New Jersey, and California.
