Third-generation apiary selling honey bee nucs, queens, bulk raw honey, and beeswax.
The B Farm is a third-generation family-owned apiary operating out of Billerica, Massachusetts, under the Merrimack Valley Apiaries name. The business opened in 1958 and has been based in Billerica ever since. It sells honey bee nucleus colonies (nucs) and mated queens to beginning, hobbyist, and commercial beekeepers, with pickup locations across the Northeast and in Louisiana. Bulk raw and filtered honey in varieties including wildflower, knottweed, blueberry, cranberry, orange blossom, and clover is available for pickup, alongside beeswax blocks sold by the pound. The business also provides crop pollination services, including cranberry and almond pollination.
The B Farm maintains over 20,000 colonies across 300 permanent yards in Louisiana for honey production, and selects breeder queens from that pool by identifying the highest honey-producing colonies with the lowest varroa mite loads in each yard. Over the past two decades it has developed its own queen-rearing program, raising 50,000 to 60,000 queens annually. The business contributed original queen stock to the USDA-ARS Pol-Line Queen Project in Baton Rouge and now produces VSH (Varroa Sensitive Hygiene) Pol-Line Plus queens selected for mite resistance and temperament. Bulk honey is sold in raw and filtered forms, with raw varieties available at the Billerica location.
