Woven Roots Farm

Woven Roots Farm uses a permanent bed, no-till growing system organized in 30-inch rows with 12-inch aisles. Once beds and pathways are established, they remain fixed: compacted aisles discourage weed growth while the undisturbed beds allow soil structure, microorganisms, and insects to thrive. At each planting, beds are aerated by hand using a broad fork, and amendments are incorporated only into the top inch of soil so that the structure below is left intact. The farm feeds its fields with rich local compost and mulches throughout the growing season. No chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides have ever been used on the land. The farm grounds its agricultural approach in ancestral practices that recognize the interconnectedness of soil, plants, fungi, microbes, insects, and animals, and operates from a framework of reciprocity and land stewardship.
