A CSA farm growing 200+ varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and cut flowers in Sebastopol.
West County Community Farm is a diversified farm along the Laguna de Santa Rosa, growing over 200 varieties of vegetables, flowers, herbs, strawberries, and specialty crops for its CSA members. The 26-week harvest season includes scheduled pick-up days, when members fill a large canvas tote with free-choice produce from freshly harvested bins in the barn. Members also have u-pick access to a half-acre strawberry patch, sugar snap peas, cherry tomatoes, pumpkins, and more, plus a cut-flower and culinary herb garden with over 20 herb and 30 flower varieties. The farm also grows heirloom popcorn and dent corn, milled into cornmeal, for members to use for preserving. The farm accepts EBT/SNAP benefits and offers share price assistance through a member-funded assistance fund.
West County Community Farm uses regenerative practices aimed at building soil health and supporting the surrounding ecosystem. The farm covers crops extensively to sink carbon into the soil and feed soil microbial life, practices diligent crop rotation, and uses copious amounts of local compost. It does not spray harsh chemical fertilizers or pesticides, including organic ones, and describes its approach as beyond-organic. The farm also makes an annual commitment to plant and steward native shrubs, insectary plants, and young oak trees through a Native Habitat Restoration Fund, to which CSA members can donate directly.
