Four-generation working cattle ranch with an oak-fired BBQ cafe and immersive cowboy experiences.
V6 Ranch is a family-owned working cattle ranch founded in 1961 by Jack and Zee Varian, now stewarded by four generations of the Varian family. The ranch spans 20,000 acres in the Cholame Valley and raises cattle across wide-open California rangeland. Guests can join cattle drives, dude ranch getaways, cowboy academies, rodeo academies, horseback rides, and horsemanship clinics. The on-site Parkfield Cafe, established in 1989, serves burgers, steaks, chili, and more, all cooked over an open oak BBQ pit. The cafe is housed in a log building with a stone fireplace, retired saddles as barstools, and a large outdoor seating area beneath Valley Oaks. Learn more on their About Page.
V6 Ranch operates under Holistic Management, a practice founder Jack Varian describes as questioning every decision to ensure it benefits every living thing from soil to sky. The ranch takes roughly half the grass Mother Nature provides each year and leaves half to keep bare ground absent. Water is actively developed through springs and distributed to troughs and stock ponds designed to serve all wildlife. The 20,000-acre ranch is secured in perpetuity by a conservation easement that protects 17,000 acres from subdivision. The Parkfield Cafe cooks its food over an open oak BBQ pit.
