Urban farm and produce stand growing pesticide-free fruits and vegetables for the local community.
Uncommon Good is a nonprofit organization based in Claremont that operates an urban agriculture program called the Community Alliance for Urban Sustainable Agriculture (CAUSA). Since 2011, the farm has grown local fruits and vegetables across a network of urban farm plots in Claremont, Pomona, and Ontario, located at public schools, places of worship, and private homes. Over 125 homeowners also participate by allowing Uncommon Good to harvest unused backyard fruit. Produce grown is made available for free to low-income families served by the organization. A farm produce stand is open Tuesday through Friday. Learn more on their About Page.
Uncommon Good grows its produce using no pesticides or synthetic chemicals, going beyond standard organic requirements by avoiding even the inputs permitted under government organic certification. The farm's fertility program relies on locally produced compost, biochar, natural mineral amendments, and periodic spraying of actively aerated compost teas. For pest management, the farm uses natural cultural practices, companion planting, and crop selection focused on varieties less susceptible to infestations.
