Family-run diversified vegetable farm with a farm stand, CSA, and heirloom crops including beans, corn, chiles, and masa.
Tierra Vegetables is a diversified family farm in Sonoma County, founded in 1980 by siblings Lee and Wayne James. The farm grows a wide range of seasonal vegetables and fruits, with a focus on unusual heirloom varieties, including up to 30 varieties of dried beans, multiple dried corn varieties, and an extensive lineup of chiles and sweet peppers. The farm stand, located inside a historic white barn on the property, sells produce alongside value-added products such as cornmeal, fresh masa, dried chiles, chile powders, pickles, sauerkraut, and chile jam. Tierra Vegetables also operates a CSA program and sells at the San Francisco Ferry Plaza Farmers Market and the Santa Rosa Original Certified Farmers Market. The farm is a longstanding supplier to acclaimed Bay Area restaurants. Learn more on their About Page.
Tierra Vegetables farms using sustainable practices that include rainwater irrigation, solar power, composting, crop rotation, and collaborative pest management. The farm grows organically but does not hold a certification. Produce sold at the farm stand comes exclusively from the farm's own land. The property also includes a commercial kitchen used to produce farm-made goods such as masa, pickles, sauerkraut, and hot sauce. Self-guided tours are available during farm stand hours, and the farm hosts school tours.
