Overview

Historic farm and urban site growing produce for donation, free farm stands, and locally sourced dining in Iowa.

The Wallace Centers of Iowa operates two historic properties, the Wallace Farm near Orient and the Wallace House in Des Moines, to preserve the Wallace family legacy of agricultural innovation and public service. The organization grows more than 40 varieties of fruits and vegetables across about 4 acres of gardens and orchard at Wallace Farm. Fresh, seasonal produce is available at no cost through the Wallace Farm Community Produce Stand, open to everyone with no registration required. The farm's produce also supplies WCI's two on-site kitchens, where it is used in seasonal farm-to-table dining and brick-oven Pizza on the Prairie events. A small-batch food product line called Abundance turns excess produce into items such as apple butter, whiskey apple butter, tomato compote, and culinary salts and sugars.
