USDA-certified organic produce farm and market, operated by the Augustine Band of the Cahuilla Indians
Temalpakh Farm is a USDA-certified organic produce farm operated by the Augustine Band of the Cahuilla Indians in Coachella, CA, founded in 2012. Its name comes from the Cahuilla word meaning "from the earth." The farm grows seasonal vegetables and sells them through several channels: a seasonal farm box subscription, an on-site market, and wholesale accounts serving retailers and restaurants. The on-site market also carries a smoothie bar and supplemental produce from area farms. An Education Center offers guided farm tours, K-12 programming, and climate-science resources for tribal and non-tribal educators. Wholesale buyers can order directly and inquire about upcoming harvests.
Every crop grown at Temalpakh Farm is certified USDA organic through California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). Pest control and crop inputs are limited to materials approved and certified by the Organic Material Review Institute (OMRI). The farm uses no GMO seeds, no harsh pesticides or chemicals, and adds no additives in post-production handling. Supplemental produce sold in the on-site market is also required to be USDA certified organic and to meet the same natural-production standards as the farm's own crops. The farm powers operations in part through its tribe's solar energy park, reducing its electric footprint. Temalpakh Farm carries the American Indian Foods trademark, affirming that its goods are made and produced by the Augustine Band of the Cahuilla Indians.
