Pasture-based farm offering grassfed beef, lamb, pork, pastured poultry, and raw-milk artisan cheese.
Steckler Grassfed Farms is a family-owned, pasture-based farm in Dale, Indiana, founded in 1986 by Jerry Steckler. After transitioning from conventional farming to intensive rotational grazing in 1994, the farm has built its operation around working with nature rather than against it. It offers grassfed beef, lamb, and whey-fed pork, as well as pastured poultry including eggs, broilers, and turkeys. Beginning in 2012, the farm expanded into artisan cheesemaking, producing raw-milk aged cheeses from its own Dutch Belted dairy herd. Seasonal specialty items such as jams and broth round out the product line. The farm ships accounts from California to New York and also develops local pickup points for nearby customers. Steckler Grassfed Farms practices intensive rotational grazing, moving its dairy herd twice daily to fresh grass and legumes. All animals receive a nature-based diet: cows and sheep are grass-fed, while chickens and turkeys forage on pasture and receive a mixture of grains and bugs alongside grass. The farm uses compost rather than chemical fertilizers to return nutrients to the soil, and applies no pesticides or herbicides. Poultry are raised without antibiotics, growth hormones, or steroids. Artisan cheeses are made from 100% grassfed raw milk sourced from the farm's own Dutch Belted herd and are aged a minimum of 60 days.
