Certified Naturally Grown veganic farm offering produce, cut flowers, and a flower CSA in Southern Indiana.
Eastward Gardens is a Certified Naturally Grown veganic farm run by Larry and Michelle Lesher, established in Southern Indiana in 2013. The farm grows vegetables and cut flowers, including dahlias, and sells through an online shop and a seasonal flower CSA. A produce CSA is also in development. Alongside the farm, Eastward Gardens operates a small Bengal cat cattery, breeding TICA-registered cats with an emphasis on temperament and genetic health screening. Larry has been farming since 2006, and Michelle became a full-time farmer in 2017, bringing a background in nutrition and nursing to the operation. Learn more on their About Page.
Eastward Gardens holds Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) status and operates as a veganic farm, meaning it uses no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides and applies no animal inputs of any kind, including manures, blood meal, feather meal, or fish emulsion. To avoid GMO contamination, the farm also excludes soy, corn, cotton, and canola as nitrogen sources, relying instead on organic legumes, seed meals, and cover crops. Soil health is managed through testing with Kinsey Ag Services using the Albrecht remineralization method, and biological and trace mineral applications from Advancing Eco Agriculture (AEA) to support soil biology and photosynthesis. The farm uses a veganic vegetative compost from Charlie's Compost in Calhoun, KY, verified as biologically active through Dr. Elaine Ingham's Soil Food Web lab.
