Family-run farm raising pasture-raised chicken, turkey, pork, 100% grass-fed beef, and eggs in the Berkshires.
Square Roots Farm is a family-owned farm operated by Michael Gallagher and Ashley Amsden since 2010. The farm sits on 185 acres in Lanesborough, Massachusetts, on the property formerly known as Fletcher Farm. Its product line includes pasture-raised chicken, turkey, and pork; 100% grass-fed beef; and fresh eggs. Products are available to order online. Michael, a Berkshire County native, apprenticed on diversified farms in New York and Vermont before returning to start the farm. The operation began modestly with CSA shares, feeder pigs, and meat chickens, and has grown into a full-scale diversified livestock farm. Learn more on their About Page.
All animals at Square Roots Farm have continuous access to fresh, green, growing pasture for as long as the season allows. The farm uses no chemical pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, hormones, or unnecessary antibiotics, and all products are GMO-free. Grazing is managed intensively, with animals rotated around the farm to follow their natural instincts: rooting, grazing, and scratching for food. The farm describes this system as building healthy soils and sequestering carbon.
