Four-generation Berkshire farm with a CSA, grass-fed beef, pastured pork, lamb, vegetables, eggs, and maple syrup.
Holiday Brook Farm spans 1,300 acres of forest and farmland in Berkshire County, sustainably managed across four generations of the Crane family. The farm is owned and operated by Dicken and Ruth Crane. It runs a weekly vegetable CSA with a market-style pick-up and a pick-your-own garden, and sells grass-fed beef, lamb, pastured pork, eggs, and 100% pure maple syrup and maple products through its self-serve farm store. The store also carries honey and other local products. A Barn Swallow Cafe, seasonal pancake breakfasts, compost, and firewood round out the farm's offerings. Learn more on their About Page.
Field fertility is managed through cover crops, crop rotations, and the farm's own compost; no conventional chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides are used. Cattle and sheep are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished. Pigs are raised outdoors on pasture and supplemented with vegetables, bread, fruit sourced from local supermarkets, and locally milled Wirtes' grain. The farm conscientiously avoids routine antibiotic use, relying on hands-on management, and reserves antibiotics or wormers strictly for critical, acute cases. No synthetic hormones of any kind are given to any of the farm's livestock.
