Family farm and farmstand growing vegetables, fruits, cut flowers, sweet corn, strawberries, and ornamental plants.
Spring Ledge Farm is a family-owned farm and farmstand started by John and Sue Clough and purchased in 2005 by Greg Berger, who had worked there since 1986. The farm grows and sells vegetables, fruits, sweet corn, its own strawberries, cut flowers, and ornamental plants. It also carries products from local farmers and makers, fresh local dairy and eggs, and gardening supplies such as potting soil, compost, and fertilizers. Pick-your-own strawberries and flowers are available seasonally, along with wedding flower services. The farm holds a New Hampshire Farm of Distinction designation from the N.H. Department of Agriculture and received the 2012 Cooperator of the Year award from the Merrimack County Conservation District. Self-guided tours are open during regular business hours, and group and school tours are available by arrangement. Learn more on their About Page.
Spring Ledge Farm practices Integrated Pest Management (IPM) on field and greenhouse crops. Crops are scouted weekly, with controls applied only above action thresholds. Products are organic-labeled or conventional, chosen for safety and environmental responsibility. Only licensed, certified applicators handle pesticides, completing yearly continuing education. Mechanical cultivation has largely replaced field herbicides. Soil is sampled every other season, crop-specific nutrient programs are built, and fertilizer is applied in frequent small doses to limit runoff. Organic fertilizer from dehydrated chicken manure supports soil biology and slows nutrient release. Rotated cover crops (buckwheat, Japanese millet, mustard, winter rye) build organic matter, reduce erosion, and break disease cycles. Drip irrigation is used on most field crops. Corn-based biodegradable mulch replaces conventional plastic, reducing landfill waste.
