Pasture-raised eggs, whole chickens, and seasonal vegetables from a regenerative farm stand in Lagrange County.
Soil Shepherd Farm is a small regenerative farm started in 2017 by Elizabeth Buckner and Dustin Marsau, operating from land in Lagrange County where Elizabeth was born. The farm offers pastured eggs, whole frozen pastured chickens, and seasonal vegetables, melons, and flowers through a self-serve farm stand open every day during daylight hours. Customers can also sign up for a free text group to receive updates on what is currently available at the stand. Elizabeth brings a lifelong connection to this specific land, and Dustin draws on studies in biology, ecology, and permaculture to guide the farm's methods. Learn more on their About Page.
Soil Shepherd Farm focuses on restoring fertile soil through a set of core practices: minimal tillage, mulching, 100% soil cover, topdressing with minerals and organic fertilizers, composting, pasture rotation, fermentation, and microorganism cultivation. The farm draws on permaculture, restoration agriculture, and Keyline Design principles. Laying hens spend their days outside on pasture, eating bugs and grass, and are fed Certified Organic grain sourced from a local mill. Meat chickens are raised on pasture in mobile pens and paddocks, moved twice per day to fresh grass, and are also fed Certified Organic grain.
