Fifth-generation pasture-raised pork, turkey, and duck from a family farm with an on-farm USDA-inspected processing plant.
Gunthorp Farms is a fifth-generation family farm raising pigs, turkeys, and ducks on pasture. Greg Gunthorp preserved the family's hog-farming heritage in the late 1990s by breaking into the restaurant market, eventually supplying some of the most acclaimed chefs in the Midwest. Today, Greg, his wife Lei, and son Evan run 240 acres with around 15 employees. The farm operates its own on-farm USDA-inspected processing plant, one of a handful in the country to process both red meat and poultry under USDA inspection. Pork, turkey, and duck cuts are available for direct purchase by individuals and wholesale accounts. Learn more on their About Page.
All animals at Gunthorp Farms are raised on pasture. The farm uses no steroids, growth hormones, or mRNA vaccines, and regards antibiotics strictly as a last resort. Animals are rotationally managed, with frequent moves to limit soil damage and minimize input costs. The farm draws a hard line on zero use of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or synthetic fertilizer on its land. In its on-farm smokehouse, cured and smoked products are made using real hickory logs and open flames over 8 or more hours, with no liquid smoke, sawdust, or wood chips. Antimicrobial use in the processing plant is limited to only those allowed under organic standards.
