Conservation cattle ranch selling natural beef raised through wildland pastoralism in the San Pedro River Valley.
Saguaro Juniper is a non-profit conservation and community cattle ranch that has operated in Arizona's Middle San Pedro watershed for over 35 years. It stewards more than 13 square miles of wildlands within an essential wildlife corridor connecting the Galiuro-Winchester Mountains, the San Pedro River, and the Rincon Mountains. The ranch raises a small herd of cattle through wildland pastoralism and sells natural beef directly to customers. Beef is available by the quarter, half, or whole animal, cut, wrapped, and frozen, with pickup offered in Tucson or Willcox. Proceeds from beef sales support the ranch's conservation and education activities.
Saguaro Juniper raises its cattle in a low-stress environment on range and pasture land, where nearly all of what the animals eat is locally grown plant material. The ranch does not use antibiotics, hormones, urea, or animal by-products in its cattle raising. Each animal is personally delivered by ranch members to a small, family-owned packing house for processing. Rather than lethal predator control, the ranch modifies its herd management practices when predation occurs, choosing to coexist with natural predators. Beef is sold directly from the ranch to the customer, bypassing the multi-step supply chain typical of conventional beef.
